  • Annoying Collect-a-thons
  • Getting Repetative

Unfortunately, certain games get the whole “Collect X Amount of These” objectives right. Others, it seems, tend to just place a million things to collect in the game so that final total time statistic in your save file is inflated much more than it needs to be. This game takes the frustration to the extreme by making 4 different types of things to collect that can only be retrieved by certain characters. So if you happend to pass by a Duff Beer Bottle Cap and you aren’t Homer then well… you have to switch to him just to nab it. This makes this whole mundane collect-a-thon 4 times more annoying.

Although the Simpsons quality is high in this game, once you unlock all the powers for this famous family, the game becomes super super super repetitive. A! A! A! A! A! A! - Use power - A! A! A! A! A! A! - Use power - etc. etc. etc…

  • Horrible Camera System

Seriously. If I was to write a book on how to ruin a game, one of the top 10 ways to do so would be to implement a horrible horrible camera system. I would then use this game as an example of just that. It’s sad. It’s like trying to watch a movie in the theater, but there is a big blob of old soda on the screen that makes the color on that portion seem dried out. You can watch the movie, but entire time you just stare at the blotched spot wondering exactly how it got there and why no one has cleaned it up and/or fixed it. The same thought goes into this game. How come one of the 100’s of programmers, writers for The Simpson’s Game, game testers, or anyone not realize that the camera just sucked making this game harder and harder to play.

The Simpsons Game - Pre-thought

Thursday, November 22nd, 2007

Being a fairly decent Simpsons Fan (I came late to loving the show a few seasons in) I had some decent expectation for this game. Having seeing screenshots of how, for the first time, a Simpsons Game looked like the actual cartoon gave me a decent amount of pre-game goosebumps in the anticipation to this game. Having played many of the old school iterations of this series such as Bart vs The Space Mutants and The Simpson’s Arcade Game, I can only hope that they finally captured both the humor and the cartoon in a fun and playable way. It also helps that this is a game that I can get my girlfriend to play.

Anticipation Level: Medium
